Talk about a huge payday! LeBron James signed a two-year, 97-million-dollar extension with the Lakers. The team missed the playoffs last season. Several league experts say if the Lakers don’t make any other big moves soon, the same could happen next season. LeBron’s newest contract has a player option for the 2024-25 season, which is when his son Bronny will be eligible for the NBA draft. The basketball superstar says he will play anywhere Bronny does.
Day 1 of joint practice with the Detroit Lions was on Wednesday for the Indianapolis Colts. Across the NFL, joint practices are often the source of scuffles and altercations between players, and yesterday’s practice was no exception. However, Colts head coach Frank Reich commended players on both sides for not letting any arguments escalate into all-out brawls. He said, quote, “Both teams showed good professionalism. You’ve got to be able to withstand those intense moments and still keep your cool. ” While joint practice received positive reviews, the Colts suffered their first major injury of the 2022 season. Sixth round pick and promising tight end Drew Ogletree suffered a torn ACL in Wednesday’s practice, ending his rookie season before Week 1.
Helio Castroneves will return to Meyer Shank Racing for a second full season in 2023. Despite questions about the 47-year-old’s future, Castroneves and MSR agreed to a new deal that will keep him in the No. 06 Honda for at least one more season. The four-time Indianapolis 500 winner is 18th in the championship standings in 2022. He only has 224 points and three top-10 finishes this season. Castroneves has maintained when questioned that he still feels like he has a lot left in the tank and is preparing for a better on-track performance in 2023. The 2022 IndyCar season has gone on without much of an impact from Castroneves, but with three races left, one of motorsports’ most popular figures has cemented himself into a full-time seat in 2023.
What a turn of events. A 12-year-old Utah boy was supposed to be competing in the Little League World Series. Instead, he’s in a hospital fighting for his life. Snow Canyon Little League pitcher Easton Oliverson was staying in the tournament’s dorm when he fell off his bunk bed. Those kinds of beds, when sold for home-use, are required to have guard rails on the sides. But that’s not the case for institutional bunk beds. Easton’s dad, Chase, says the doctors are encouraged by his son’s progress. He did suffer a pretty nasty injury, though.
