With four races left in the season, the IndyCar series heads to Nashville for the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix. The street course on the roads of downtown Nashville take drivers past Nissan Stadium and features a component few race courses in the world have. Racers will cross the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge as part of the course. The 3,578-foot bridge makes the Music City the only stop on the IndyCar calendar and one of the few in the entire world that crosses a major body of water. 2022 Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson returns to Nashville as the defending champion in last year’s inaugural event. Qualifications for the Music City Grand Prix begin on Saturday afternoon with the green flag waving around 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon.
Rinus VeeKay has signed a new multi-year deal with Ed Carpenter Racing. The 21-year-old’s negotiation period began on August 1 and he wasted no time returning to ECR. Next year will be the driver’s fourth year with Ed Carpenter Racing making him the longest tenured driver in the team’s history. VeeKay had been mentioned in discussions surrounding the future of other teams in 2023. Instead of spending time waiting for other teams to figure out whether or not they have seats available, VeeKay extends his relationship with the only IndyCar team he’s ever been a part of and the place he won his first IndyCar race. The young driver currently sits in 11th in the series standings but he’s just 17 points behind eighth position with four races remaining.
The Butler men’s basketball team opened it’s four-game European tour with a win in Rome on Thursday night 95-61. The Bulldogs played a collection of players from the Stellazzurra Basketball Team and other professional players in the Rome area. The Bulldogs trailed by two at the end of the first quarter before winning the second quarter by 19 points to take a 17-point lead into halftime. Chuck Harris had 19 points to lead all Butler scorers followed closely by Myles Tate who added 16 points of his own. There were three other players in double figures for the Bulldogs.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish officially begin their 2022 season with the start of fall camp on Friday. At quarterback, sophomore Tyler Buchner and junior Drew Pyne will jockey for the right to start at quarterback when the regular season begins.The Irish will begin their season in the spotlight when they head to Columbus to take on Big Ten favorite Ohio State on September 3.
