The first visible tension of the Indianapolis Colts 2022 season came on Wednesday from training camp. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and veteran defensive back Rodney McLeod exchanged punches after a play on day two of full pads practice. After practice, Frank Reich said the edge Pittman plays with is part of what makes him a good player and wide receiver, but the edge with which the third-year wideout plays football also contributes to the altercations he gets in with opponents and teammates.
Andretti Autosport was fined $25,000 and Alexander Rossi was docked 20 points in the series standings after the No. 27 Honda Rossi drove to a win at the Gallagher Grand Prix did not meet minimum weight requirements in the typical post race inspection. IndyCar president Jay Frye said in a statement release that while the car met the minimum weight during Saturday’s race, Andretti used an ineligible component to get the car to legal weight. In the IndyCar rulebook, the car must meet a certain weight in ready-to-compete condition excluding the weight of the driver, driver equivalency weight, fuel and drink bottle content. Of those ineligible items, Andretti and Rossi used a water bottle to cross the weight threshold. Rossi and Andretti Autosport won the Gallagher Grand Prix at IMS snapping a three year, 49-race winless streak for the Rossi.
