According to case documents filed on Friday, Alex Palou and his attorneys filed a motion to move the civil lawsuit against him by Chip Ganassi Racing to federal court. The attorneys filed to move the case to the Indianapolis Division of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. In the effort, Palou and his representation pointed to “diversity of citizenship” and “amount in controversy” as the reasons the case should be moved. Palou’s personal racing business, ALPA Racing, has its only physical address in Barcelona, Spain and Palou’s attorneys are arguing that the case should be moved to federal court because the two sides share no common state citizenship. In addition, federal courts generally take on cases where the amount in controversy is north of $75,000. The contract Chip Ganassi Racing is trying to make Palou honor in 2023 is worth more than $75,000 and is the foundation of that argument for Palou’s attorneys.
