The Indiana Pacers moved to 2-1 at Las Vegas Summer League with a 101-87 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Bennedict Mathurin turned in his second 20-point game with 20 points on just nine field goal attempts. Four of the five Pacer starters scored in double figures including new Pacers guard Aaron Nesmith. Nesmith was officially eligible for Tuesday’s game after Malcolm Brogdon passed his physical with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday morning. In his Indiana debut, the former Vanderbilt guard scored 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. The Pacers will play their last scheduled game on Friday against the Washington Wizards.
On Tuesday, Chip Ganassi Racing announced they had exercised its team option for Alex Palou, the IndyCar defending champion, to return to the team in 2023. Then, only a couple of hours later Palou announced he was leaving Chip Ganassi Racing for the McLaren Racing Family. On Tuesday night, Palou took to Twitter saying CGR released the news without his approval. The driver also said the release included a quote from him that he did not author. Just minutes after his Twitter thread, McLaren announced that Palou would be joining the McLaren family in 2023. However, it did not say where he would be driving in 2023. Although Palou seems to be on his way to McLaren, Chip Gannasi Racing did confirm that the driver is under contract with the team through 2023.
The Cincinnati Reds went eight scoreless innings at Yankee Stadium before scoring four runs in the top of the ninth to steal one from the Yankees 4-3. In Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox and Guardians split a doubleheader and a tale of two games. In Game 1, the White Sox only managed three hits and fell 4-1 before flipping the script in Game 2 securing a 7-0 victory. The St. Louis Cardinals had a rookie and a 22-year veteran hit home runs in a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Chicago Cubs gave up four unanswered runs to Baltimore in a 4-2 loss. Behind a four-run seventh inning, the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 7-5.
