Victory Field was the hub of downtown Indianapolis on Monday night with the Indians taking the field followed by fireworks all over the circle city. Before fireworks were sent through the night sky, the Indians produced some excitement of their own with a walk-off win over the Iowa Cubs. In the 10th inning down 4-3, Indians middle infielder Kevin Newman stepped to the plate and drove in a pair of runs to life Indianapolis over Iowa 5-4. Elsewhere around the state on a rare Monday night minor league slate, the Fort Wayne Tin Caps fell to Lake County 6-0. The previously scorching hot South Bend Cubs lost their second game in a row to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The final score from Four Winds Field was 9-1.
The Chicago White Sox gave up four runs in the top of the 10th inning to the Minnesota Twins on Monday to lose 6-3. On a doubleheader day in Detroit, the Tigers took care of business twice against the Cleveland Guardians. Tigers pitching gave up just eight hits across the two contests and Jonathan Schoop had six hits on the day. Brewers catcher Victor Caratini launched a 3-run homerun off Cubs pitcher Scott Effross in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Milwaukee over Chicago 5-2 in extras. In Cincinnati, the Reds got just one hit with runners in scoring position and fell to the Mets 7-4. To end the evening after a lengthy rain delay, the Cardinals fell to the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on the back of a five run second inning for the Braves.
The Indiana Pacers continue preparation for the NBA 2K23 Summer League in Las Vegas beginning July 7. The Pacers will play their first game of the summer against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, July 8 at 6:00pm. The blue and gold are guaranteed to play five games across a nine day stretch. The Pacers roster will be highlighted first round pick Bennedict Mathurin as well as other 2022 selections Kendall Brown and Andrew Nembhard. Second year Pacers Chris Duarte, Isaiah Jackson and Duane Washington Jr. will also be featured. Pacers assistant coach and former Butler player, Ronald Nored will serve as the head coach of the team.
