Today, the Indiana Pacers will host NBA Draft prospect Shaedon Sharpe. The 6’5 guard from Kentucky is perhaps the most unknown top 5 caliber player in recent draft memory. The former No. 1 player in his high school class has the tools to be a franchise altering addition to any team, but he hasn’t played in a basketball game in over a year and all of the game tape on him comes from high school and AAU basketball. The Pacers welcome him to Indianapolis on Monday alongside five other draft prospects. Fellow lottery picks like Johnny Davis and AJ Griffin worked out for Indiana in individual workouts, but Sharpe will be joined by other players. Butler’s Aaron Thompson, Illinois’ Alfonso Plummer and Villanova’s Jermaine Samuels will also be in attendance.
The Notre Dame baseball team played two games in Omaha over the weekend at the College World Series. The Irish defeated Texas 7-3 on Friday behind a good pitching performance from senior John Michael Bertrand. On Sunday, Notre Dame fell to the Oklahoma 6-2 as Sooner pitcher Cade Horton went six innings giving up just two runs and five hits while striking out 11 Irish hitters. The loss drops the Irish into the elimination portion of Bracket 1 where they’ll face No. 5 Texas A&M on June 21.
The Indiana Fever captured their fifth win of the season at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Sunday knocking off the Chicago Sky 89-87. The Fever trailed the reigning WNBA champions by 15 at halftime after scoring just nine points in the second quarter. But it was a 35-point offensive explosion after halftime that gave Indiana the lead after three quarters. Indiana, who still have the worst record in the Eastern Conference, will face the Dallas Wings on Thursday with a chance to put together back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.
