Washington senior golfer Simon Parsons posted a solid 78 at the Country Oaks Regional on Thursday, but just missed advancing to the State Finals. South Knox finished 14th as a team, while Vincennes finished 11th on the day. Evansville North, Covenant Christian, and Evansville Memorial were the top 3 teams yesterday. Individually, freshman phenom Peyton Blankard of Gibson Southern carded a 72 along with Ian Perry of Plainfield. The top finisher was Damian Rij of Evansville North with a 71.
The NTT IndyCar Series is in action this weekend for the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The top five of the points standings is littered with drivers who finished on the podium at Road America in 2021. Defending champion Alex Palou currently sits in fourth in the points race and current points leader Will Power finished third at Road America last year and is coming off a win in Detroit last weekend. Alexander Rossi put together a great performance at the Detroit Grand Prix almost overtaking Will Power in the final laps. He heads to Road America with a 2019 win under his belt that saw him best second place by 28 seconds. That 2019 win also serves as the American’s most recent IndyCar win. Qualifying from Elkhart Lake begins on Saturday afternoon with the green flag coming at 12:30pm on Sunday afternoon.
Today, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team begin a three-game series with No. 1 overall seed Tennessee in the super regionals of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Irish won the Statesboro Regional last week going undefeated in the double elimination bracket hosted by the No. 16 seed Georgia Southern. Simply put, Notre Dame has a tall task ahead of them if they want to advance to Omaha and the College World Series. The Volunteers are 56-7 as the season — the Irish have only played 52 games total. They rank first in slugging percentage, runs, walks and home runs. On the other side of the ball, they are first in the country in team ERA at 2.38. Game 1 between the Irish and the Volunteers is tonight at 6:00pm. First team to two wins punches its ticket to Omaha.
The Reds lost to the Diamondbacks yesterday in a close one 5 to 4. The Reds kick off a weekend series with the Cardinals tonight at 7:45 pm in St Louis on The General 95.9 / 101.3fm. The Cardinals lost to Tampa Bay yesterday 2 to 1.
