Indianapolis Colts All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard underwent back surgery on Tuesday, according to head coach Frank Reich. Leonard battled a collection of different injuries throughout last season and the problem keeping him out of OTA’s centered around his ankle. That issue continues to plague the linebacker and the Colts medical staff but he back issue lingered and progressed over the course of the offseason. Reich did say that the surgery will keep Leonard out of at least part of training camp but he should be ready to go for the regular season as long as rehabilitation goes as planned.
Kenny Moore’s contract issues and participation questions weren’t demanding as much attention on Tuesday because the pro bowl corner was in a Colts uniform practicing with the rest of the team at mandatory camp. Moore participated in warm ups, defensive back drills and 7-on-7 work before sitting out the rest of practice. Moore missed both weeks of voluntary OTA’s because he is unhappy with his current contract. But those sessions were voluntary and he could’ve been on the hook for substantial fines if he neglected to show up to practice on Tuesday.
The Cleveland Guardians and Texas Rangers each scored nine runs across their doubleheader at Progressive Field. The Guardians took the first contest 6-3 before the Rangers took the second contest in the exact same fashion. Reds rookie pitcher Graham Ashcraft threw six innings of zero run baseball while the Cincinnati bates scored nine runs in the first three frames eventually beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-8. The Chicago White Sox beat the Dodgers 4-0 while the Cubs fell in Baltimore 9-3. After getting swept by the Yankees, the Tigers picked up a 5-3 win over the Pirates and the Cardinals fell in extras to the Rays 4-2 despite giving up only three hits to Tampa Bay.
