The girls softball sectionals get underway tonight. Due to storm damage at the Gibson Southern field, the 3A Sectional has been moved to the Sports Complex in Washington. There is only one game tonight, it will feature Princeton against Vincennes with first pitch at 6:00 pm. Washington will take on Pike Central tomorrow at 6:00 pm, and Gibson Southern will face the winner of game one in the late game tomorrow night in Washington. The championship will be held on Thursday.
Tonight at North Daviess in the 1A Sectional, North Daviess will play Loogootee at 6:00 pm, and Barr Reeve faces Shoals at 8:00 pm. Hear live coverage of Barr Reeve and Shoals on The General 95.9 / 101.3fm tonight at 8pm. The two winners play for the championship tomorrow night.
At South Knox in 2A, North Knox plays Southridge, and South Knox will face Eastern Greene.
The Washington and Loogootee girls tennis teams claimed sectional titles over the weekend. Loogootee beat Paoli 4-1 for their 19th win in a row, while Washington knocked out South Knox 4-1. Bloomfield edged out North Daviess at Linton 3-2. Washington will now face Loogootee in the regional semifinals tomorrow, while Jasper plays Bloomfield in the other semifinal match up on Tuesday.
Justin Thomas won the 104th PGA Championship at Southern Hills. He came back from seven strokes, forcing the tournament into a three-hole aggregate playoff that he eventually won over Will Zalatoris. This is his second Wanamaker Trophy of his young career. In doing so, the 29-year-old tied for the third-largest comeback after 54 holes in major championship history.
The lineup for the 106th Indianapolis 500 is set with Scott Dixon setting the second fastest four-lap average in race history in the final round of qualifying at 234.046 mph. Dixon will lead the field to the green Sunday with Alex Palou and Rinus VeeKay lining up beside him to start the 2022 edition of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
