Pike County School Corporation responds to the county’s COVID-19 ‘Red’ Status

The Pike County School Corporation released a statement yesterday regarding the county’s “red’ status in relation to the schools. The Pike County School Corporation said they would like to clarify that this does NOT require a transition of the schools from the Green learning model to Yellow or Red. They also said communication between school officials and the health department is vital in allowing them to provide the best education to children within safe learning environments. Due to the isolation of the majority of these recent cases within a long term care facility, they do not feel the health of students and families would be positively impacted, at this time, by transitioning to hybrid learning or by a closure.
Pike County is currently the only county in Indiana to enter into COVID-19 ‘Red’ Status. For a county to be in the COVID-19 ‘Red’ Status, they must have a 7-day positivity rate of 15% or greater or 200 or more weekly cases per 100,000 residents. Pike County currently has a 7-day positivity rate of 15.83%.
