WAMW Sports – October 2, 2020

Junior High Football the Washington 8th graders topped North Daviess 12-6.  The 7th grade did not play.

The North Daviess Cougars claimed their own sectional championship yesterday in Boys Tennis as they rolled past Linton 5-0. Next up will be a county clash wIth the Washington Hatchets at the Jasper regional on Tuesday at 5:30.  Washington claimed the Vincennes Sectional for a repeat championship shutting out Vincennes Lincoln 5-0.
Loogootee Tennis eliminated Barr Reeve in the sectional semi final with a tough 3-2 win in the semi finals.  The Lions will face NE Dubois for the championship tonight at Loogootee.  Jasper beat Forest Park. last night 4-1 advancing to their own regional Tuesday.
The Washington Girls Soccer game at Southridge was cancelled yesterday.
High School Football tonight:
Washington will have another road trip this week to Heritage Hills to meet the Patriots.  Pre game starts at 7:15pm on Memories 107.9 fm
North Daviess will host North Decatur tonight.  Kick off at 7:30pm      North Knox is at Linton    Vincennes plays at home against Evansville North   Pike Central has another week off     Jasper travels to Castle

In Volleyball, the Barr-Reeve Vikings improved their record to 22-2 with at 25-15, 25-12 and 25-19 victory at North Knox.  The Vikings improved their conference record to 6-0.
In the JV contest the Vikings also won 25-24, 25-14 to improve their overall record to 12-5  and 5-0 in Conference play.  The Vikings will host Terre Haute South in a varsity only match tomorrow.

The North Daviess Cougar Volleyball team grabbed another conference win over Eastern Greene in straight sets.  The Cougars finish the year at 5 and 2 in the conference, and improved to 11 and 9 overall.  The JV fell short in the first match.

Heading into Week 4 of the NFL season,
the Indianapolis Colts are preparing to face the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field, with a matchup coming against former Super Bowl Champion Nick Foles.  Both teams have several key injuries heading into the match up.

For  the first time since the Indy 500 in August, it is race weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In a back-to-back doubleheader, the IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix will take place with 10,000 fans in the stands on both Friday and Saturday afternoon. Qualifying for Race 1 took place last night. The 85-lap Race 1 today will begin at 3:30 PM, while Race 2 tomorrow will raise the green flag at 2:30 PM. Race 2 will run at 75 laps.  You can hear both races beginning today at 3:30pm on Memories 107.9fm.

The Miami Marlins are one win away from sweeping the Chicago Cubs out of the wild card round after beating them at Wrigley Field on Wednesday 5-1 in game one of their three game series. Game two was supposed to follow on Thursday afternoon, but was subsequently postponed due to inclement weather.  First pitch from Wrigley Field is set for 2:00 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds failed to put a run on the board and were eliminated from the 2020 MLB playoffs by the Atlanta Braves in a 5-0 shutout on Thursday afternoon. The Reds, who took the Braves to a 13-inning chess match in game one and ultimately fell 1-0, didn’t have the luxury of a Trevor Bauer masterpiece in game two. The Reds bullpen again struggled giving up four runs on just 22 pitches.

The Chicago White Sox saw their season come to an end by the hands of the Oakland Athletics in a 6-4 loss on Thursday night.

The Padres tied up their playoff series at a game apiece with an 11 to 9 win over the St Louis Cardinals.  The rubber match is set for tonight at 7pm.
