Area Sports Report

The Barr-Reeve tennis team beat Wood Memorial Saturday at Wood Memorial 5-0 finishing off their regular season with a 17-1 record.  They now await their opponent in the Tennis Sectional this week.

The Washington Boys tennis team defeated Heritage Hills 4 to 1 on Saturday to claim the schools first PAC conference championship.  Congratulationst to the Hatchet netters.  The sectional tournament begins this week.
North Daviess also claimed the SWIAC conference title on Saturday for a solid win.
Loogootee set a new school record with another win defeating Terre Haute South 4 to 1.
The Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings improved their record to 19-2 with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 win on Friday night over the  Loogootee Lions.  The Vikings improve their conference record to 4-0. In the JV contest the Lions took set-1 25-20 but the Vikings came back to win the second set 25-24 and won the third set 15-9 to improve  their record to 10-5 and their conference record to 3-0.  The Vikings travel to Wood Memorial tonight.
The Washington Boys and Girls Soccer teams grabbed a pair of wins on Saturday at the Sports Complex.  The Hatchet Boys defeated a good Heritage Hills team 2 to nothing.  The conference win for Washington is their final game before the tournament in one week.  The girls followed with a 1 to nothing shut out win over Pike Central.  The girls play Southridge on the road Thursday for their final game before the tournament.  The IHSAA boys and girls sectional pairings draw will take place tonight at 8pm in Indianapolis with the opening round of the sectional tournaments beginning October 5th
Washington Hatchet Football grabbed a huge win on the road Friday night in the final minute at Princeton 34 to 27.  The Hatchets move to 3 and 3 on the season with a road trip to Heritage Hills this week.

The Bears had a huge come from behind win on the road over the Falcons with Nick Foles calling the shots stepping in for Mitch Trubisky the Bears over the Falcons 30-26

Monday night match-up tonight has the Ravens facing off with the Chiefs in Baltimore
The Chicago Cubs held off the Chicago White Sox rally to win 10-8 in the regular season finale at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox scored five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth but came up short and dropped their seventh out of eight games. The Cubs got homers from Kris Bryant, Billy Hamilton and David Bote, and are the third seed in the National League. They will host the Miami Marlins starting Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
The Cincinnati Reds scored three runs in the top of the 10th and won the regular season finale 5-3 over the Minnesota Twins. Brownsburg, Indiana native Tucker Barnhart singled home a run to give the Reds the lead, and the visitors added two more runs on a walk and a Eugenio Suarez single. The Reds wrapped up the regular season 31-29 to earn the seventh seed in the NL and they will face the Atlanta Braves on the road in the wild card round. Cincinnati started a disappointing 15-21, before winning 16 of 24 to end the season and make the postseason for the first time since 2013.
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 to earn a playoff berth on the last day of the regular season. St. Louis is the fifth seed in the National League and will play the Padres in San Diego in the first round of the playoffs.
