Martin County authorities warn public of email scam

Martin County authorities are warning people of a digital wallet scam. Officials say victims have received emails from PayPal, Apple Pay or other apps that say “Oops can you send that back?” The email contains a notification that money was accidentally sent to the recipient. The scammers are using stolen credit card numbers and connecting them with digital wallet apps. When the money gets back to the scammer, they receive the money and it is removed from the original card holders account. The Martin County Sheriff’s Department tells the public that if you receive one of these emails, you can request the vendor cancel the transfer. If they deny your request to cancel the transfer, it is more than likely a scam.
