Safe Haven Baby Box installed at Vincennes Fire Department

The Vincennes Fire Department has unveiled the first Safe Haven Baby Box in Knox County. The box works with Indiana’s new Safe Haven Law and is one of several that have been installed nation wide. Parents can leave their newborns 30 days or younger in the box anonymously without fear of prosecution. The boxes are located at several Fire, EMS stations, and hospital. The boxes are temperature controlled and lock as soon as a baby is placed inside. 911 is notified via an alarm system every time a baby is left in one of the boxes. The goal of the box is make these drop offs safer. 4 babies have been given up in a baby box so far this year.
