Commissioners Award Contract for 15th St. Bridge Project

The Daviess County Commissioners met for the first time in 2018, Tuesday morning.  The Commissioners re-elected Nathan Gabhart as President, Tom McCracken, Vice-President, and Michael Taylor as Secretary.

The Commissioners took a major step and awarded the contract on the 15th Street Bridge project.  County Engineer Jason Heile  comments on the selection of the contractor.

Heile said the bids came in about $100,000 under estimates and were very competitive.  Work on the bridge will begin as soon as the weather permits.  The new bridge will be completed by the end of November.  The winning bid for the project as Heili said  went to Force Construction. Their bid  was $1,983,000.

In other business, the Commissioners reappointed Grant Swartzentruber as County Attorney; Scott Schnarr,  Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor; Grant Chambers, Veterans Officer; David Gray, County Weights and Measures Inspector; Phil Cornelius, County Highway Supervisor, and Jason Heile as County Engineer.  The Commissioners also agreed with County Treasurer Elaine Wellman’ s suggestion to delay the Commissioners Tax Sale since there were only 8 qualifying properties.

County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius presented resident petitions for a speed study on County Road 1000 N, between the Town of Plainville and CR 200 E.    The Commissioners also discussed speeds on County Road 1200 E.  They noted that several petitions had been distributed, but none have been returned for potential action.
