Ambrose P. “Hootie” Dant

Ambrose P. “Hootie” Dant, age 83, of Washington, passed away October 22, 2017 at 3:25 p.m. at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville.
He was born on March 16, 1934 in Cannelburg to Beldas R. and Mary Jane (Grider) Dant. He had attended Montgomery Schools, retired from McCord Corporation and he was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic church and he loved to work, often being referred to as “Mr. Fix It”. He loved helping others and was often for the underdog.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Myers) Dant, whom he married, January 31, 1953; one son, Tim (Cathy) Dant of Washington; two daughters, Tena Williams of Washington and Mona (Jeff) Barnard of Washington; five grandchildren, Courtney (John) Memering, Patrick (Natasha) Dant, Angie Dant, Aubrey (David) Riddle and Craig Dant; eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brock Williams; great grandson, Nolan P. Dant; sisters, Alberta Higgens, Pauline Kane, Elizabeth Dillion, Nancy Truelove; brothers, George Dant, Augustine Grider, Robert Dant, William Dant, Marshall Dant and Marion Dant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Fr Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM– 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Cemetery for pavement of the road, 101 North Meridian Street, Washington, Indiana 47501.
